Snohomish County Blueprint partners

  • Leveraged more than $24 million in resources to support clusters. Of these, more than $20 million were competitively attracted.
  • Submitted coordinated grant proposals complimenting the missions of each partner while also allowing for unique growth and development.**
  • Prepared for IPZ growth and next steps. Received $250,000 from the Washington Department of Commerce to develop the Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center, at Paine Field and $500,000 for the Washington MedTech Discovery Center, in Bothell.**
  • Strengthened relationships with existing partners and brought new partners (chambers, industry, agriculture cluster) on board. Connected organizations that have not had the opportunity partner with each other, thus allowing organizations to learn and get more involved with each other's work.**
  • Strengthened commitment to always using current events to drive and change strategies, thus remaining responsive, future oriented, and focused on continued growth rather than short-term or one-time growth.**

K-12 public education career and technical education

  • Advisory committees used data to make curriculum decisions.**
  • Received guidance for Sno-Isle TECH Skills Center program offerings.**
  • Superintendents partnered with community college Presidents to streamline placement exam process.**
  • Held a county-wide General Advisory Council workshop to familiarize members with Blueprint clusters and initiatives.
  • Presented an overview to local General Advisory Councils and Program Advisory Committees, School Boards, Chambers of Commerce, teacher groups, City Councils, and school district Administration Councils.
  • Quoted data in student course description guides.
  • Used the Blueprint with prospective business partners to show County’s strategic direction and how public education fits in.
  • Started/re-started programs at the high school level based on needs in Biotechnology, Manufacturing, and Pre-engineering.
  • Used the information to provide back-up labor market data to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Economic Development Council of Snohomish County

  • Used data to inform market growth and drive strategy.**

Edmonds Community College Small Business Development Center

  • Assisted more than 500 businesses, primarily in Professional, Scientific, and Technical; Manufacturing; and Retail.
  • Created nearly 300 new jobs.
  • Generated more than $10 million in investments, equity, and loans.

Edmonds Community College

  • Served full-time equivalent unemployed students annually under its Worker Retraining Program.
  • Launched programs for low-income students in Business Services and Health Care.
  • Launched an Industry Skills Panel in Biotechnical-Biomedical Devices.
  • Offered Construction Trades training in the Edmonds School District.
  • Launched high-demand training programs in the Construction Trades and Materials Science.
  • Conducted training to meet industry needs in Manufacturing.
  • Launched and operated the Employment Resource Center which will identify candidates for all 787 production jobs.
  • Developed advanced manufacturing programs for the National Science Foundation.
  • Launched Federal Aviation Administration certified training.
  • Launched the Materials Science Technical Resource Center.
  • Launched the Materials Process Development Center in conjunction with Everett Community College.
  • Expanded training capacity and launched training programs in Advanced Manufacturing, Aviation, and Material Science.

Everett Community College

  • Served a minimum of 176 full-time equivalent unemployed students annually under its Worker Retraining Program.
  • Established a School of Business Design.
  • Offered a Rad Tech degree program on campus, delivered by Bellingham Technical College.
  • Offered an integrated English as a Second Language/Technical Training program which is WABO certified in Welding for immigrants and refugees.
  • Launched the Materials Process Development Center in conjunction with Edmonds Community College.
  • Launched a Metal Trades program that is increasing enrollment in Precision Machining and Welding/Fabrication.
  • Built and equipped a new welding facility and supported new technology programs.
  • Expanded training capacity and launched training programs in Advanced Manufacturing, Aviation, and Material Science.

University of Washington Bothell**

  • Created 21st Century Campus Initiative, an academic plan calling for new program development in STEM fields to help the institution meet the state demand in these high-growth fields.
  • Launched a Science and Technology Program which houses a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and has many other STEM degrees under development, including Biological Sciences.
  • Received $5M in funding from the Washington State Legislature to design a third academic building which will house the Science and Technology Program and STEM-related degree offerings.
  • Grew enrollment to 2,750 students, reflecting a rate of growth that leads public universities in the state; the UW Bothell plans to grow to 6,000 students by 2020.
  • Responding to the expanding game industry cluster in King and Snohomish Counties, developing a degree in Interactive Media and Technology and a game technology center to house related research, technology development, and learning opportunities, tentatively named the Interactive Online Technology Academy.
  • Continued collaboration with the Bothell Biomedical Device IPZ.
  • Exploring a collaboration with Providence Regional Medical Center and Everett Community College to offer a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing Program in Everett.
  • Supported by a Congressionally-directed Grant, launched a collaboration with 11 community colleges in the region to address the shortage of qualified nursing educators.
  • Launched a second MBA program, the Leadership MBA, complementing UW Bothell’s established Technology MBA program.

Workforce Development Council Snohomish County

  • Received $400,000 to fund 90 training opportunity and earned enough match credits to fund 70 more training opportunities.**
  • Received $750,000 over 3 years from FIPSE to fund compressed education programs at 3 community colleges.**
  • Received $100,000 for local demand training opportunities including pre-apprenticeship preparation programs.**
  • Received a YouthBuild DOL grant to engage young adults in Construction.**
  • Targeted $1 million toward cluster training through Individual Training Accounts for low-income adults and dislocated workers.
  • Provided nearly $900,000 in support and training funds to support students training in the health services cluster.
  • Offered scholarships to K-12 students and adults to enter postsecondary education in cluster training programs.
  • Provided resources to the Snohomish School District for equipment for the new Machining Pathways Program.
  • Provided nearly $1 million and leveraged $1 million to support worksite-based, industry-led training in targeted industry clusters.
  • Launched a Restorative Aid apprenticeship program in collaboration with industry.
  • Launched a Construction Industry Skills Panel.
  • Launched a Health Services Industry Skills Panel.
  • Launched a Regional Aerospace Skills Panel.
  • Developed awareness and career exploration products for the health services industry.
